First I want to say what an honor it was to serve as Vice President of IBEW 2213 for four years. After careful consideration I realized my knowledge of the Treasurer position could serve the local's financial needs so I decided to accept the Executive Board appointment.I am a former thirty-year employee and I worked for all the previous companies, starting as an operator for the former New York Telephone in 1967. Eventually, I was promoted to Service Representative, which gave me a higher rate of pay.
I became a Union Steward in 1974 while working in this department. I served in this capacity for many years and I received honors from the local Union for my outstanding service. This was very gratifying because I was chosen by the membership. In 1993, I was elected Unit Chairman of the Western area which also included an Executive Board position and three years later I was re-elected unopposed. During this period I received the coveted Black Achievers Award, Buffalo N.Y., in recognition of my Union activities. My current position as treasurer keeps me very busy with the weekly financial responsibilities and frequent contact with our accountants. Currently, I am deeply involved with finalizing the data for our annual audit to produce the yearly financial reports. I attend the Union Dues Task Force along with CWA officers to track or address any union dues problems that may occur. I am also the Assistant Business Manager for the Public Communications Department, which includes the Public Communications Specialists, Coin Collectors and some clerical positions.
Sincerely, Cathy Hubbard, Treasurer
