Business Manager's Report

Since the last Board Meeting most of my time has been spent on the surplus Verizon declared.  On June 20, everyone who was able based on the numbers, was able to leave.  We now have to deal with the over subscription, and non-surplus issues.  The company needs the Unions permission to overscribe.  The 30 days we have per the agreement to discuss, began on June 14, so it could go through to July 14.  The Unions are willing to let everyone go as long as the Company backfills the over subscribed positions.  The Unions have to protect the members who are remaining on the payroll as well as the work in the bargaining units.  On June 21, the Unions made a proposal to management that we think will benefit everyone; we are waiting for the Company's response.  The process is like bargaining, it is not easy.  Conversations between CWA, IBEW and Verizon are going throughout the former Bell Atlantic territory.  The number that Verizon declared surplus in New York on February 26, was 3,938.  On June 20, 2010 - 2,988 people volunteered for the EIPP, 2315 were accepted.  As of today there are 513 over subscriptions and 160 non-surplus volunteers in New York.  In IBEW 2213, 80 members were accepted and there are 80 on the over subscription list.  We will continue to talk with the company during this 30 day period.

On behalf of myself and the other officers we wish health and happiness to all those who left with this offer.  Always remember to stay Union and stay involved.
