Tape Message Monday April 5, 2010
On Friday April 2, Verizon sent out an email about the discussions regarding the Feb. 26, surplus that they declared. This surplus affected 3938 employees in NY and 12,000 employees in the former Bell Atlantic area. Verizon in their typical fashion want you to believe that it is the Union's fault that an agreement has not been achieved.
What Verizon fails to tell your is that a series of high level meetings were held between IBEW, CWA and Verizon. The Unions presented ways to relieve the surpluses such as returning contracted work to the bargaining units, offer any job openings tat exist in all Verizon subsidiaries and increasing the IPP payments. Verizon refused to do anything that the Union suggested except for increasing the IPP payments slightly.
The Union will be meeting later today to discuss the recent talks. We will keep you updated via the tape at 888 458-1501.
